Everyone says start below the pad but they all drive a lot better even or just a hair above the pad.

Pulling the power head is probably easiest in the long run and a lot less chance of screwing up anything else. Just guessing tho.

I made a teepee out of pvc pipe. Never had a problem, it was steep enough everything slid off. Use pipe bigger than you think you need, it will be sturdier. I did not glue all the joints so I could easily take it apart for storage.

Richard and Donna stayed in the campground before he had his Ally. They had a big Airstream I think.
