I'm currently running a 20" offshore mid on a rapid jack with 15" of setback. I've just purchased a 15" mid, which already has 2" of setback built into it.

I realize that on an XB03, more setback is generally better. However, 17" sounds pretty extreme to me...almost to the point of maybe even unsafe.

What do you guys think?

That's a lot. Although Ted from Winter Haven is in that neighborhood on his 2003. He run's a 20" 280 on his and I think he's around 15"-16". With a 260, you really don't need that much (I don't think) but it'll probably work. I run 8 1/2" on my GS with a 15" mid. You may find that the motor gets dunked more often with that much.

there is also the school of thought that the extra 2" of the 15" mid is negated and not supposed to counted in.
