I'm setting up a 2003xb and need advice on how much setback to use.
Is the best method to use a setback plate and then mount a jacking plate to it? I will not be using a hydraulic plate and plan to power the boat with a 225 PM w/ sporty gearcase. Thanks Mark

I think it depends on the year. The 94 and 95 year model boats pad wasnt as far under the boat as the 96 and up models. I think the lip on the pad got bigger in 96 also. I aint no expert on this subject but, I seem to remember reading this here at one time.

Mine is a 99, very little lip. I think my plate is at 14" right now. It's an Allison plate so I can adjust the setback in 1" increments. 2.5 280.

OK now I have a question. Mine is a 1995, are you guys saying that it would need less setback than other year models? I'm running the yamaha 2.6 (429 lb's) it's running good at 10.5 inchs at the present but have set it back to 12.5 inchs, it has better hole shot at 10.5 than the 12.5, top end is about the same either way.

OK, the boat is a 1995 2003xb and it appears that the Allison plate with 11-14 should get me close for now. Still have a few more questions....Do you need a hydaulic plate plate or can I set the engine a half inch below the pad and still have enough holeshot pull up a kid skier? .....What part of the hull are you calling the "lip"? .....Does anyone have a clean Allison 11-14 Jackplate? Thanks for all the info, I'm going to enjoy this boat. :wink

1/2 way between the Gay Bay and LA.
I have an XB2003 1994 w/8" setback. No weight to speek of IN the boat. Just a "Little Johnson" on the back.
You shouldn't need a HYD plate, just another prop maybe.
Get under the back end of the boat and feel the last 1' of the pad (front to rear). You'll find within the last 1" there is a slight downward turn (lip).
This lip is part of what allows the boat to lift and carry weight with less horse power.
This lip also is what requires driver input to balance upon.
