allison xtb 17' 78' merc 80hp

picked up an allison xtb 17' rigged it w/ a 78' merc 80p what size prop should we run on it w/ 2 heavy set people loaded for fishing?? not worried about top speed just good hole shot and carry the load...

I owned that model merc in the early 80's . It's a good motor with a 2.3:1 gear ratio. I would try to find a 19" pitch to try with the load you carry. It's possible a 21" pitch would work if the 19" spins past 5600 RPM. I had my motor on a light 14' shallow "V" runabout and could pull a 24" small ear chopper to 6000 RPM.
