The NBA lost one of its pioneers 18days short of his 81st birthday. The 6'10" 250#er ushered professional basketball into the mainstream and solidified its presence in professional sports in the 50s and was credited with making the Lakers the franchise that they are today (as told by Jerry Buss himself). George was the first "BIG MAN" in the NBA others were close too his height but nowhere near his sheer size and dominance and many experts credit him over Abdul Jabar and Chamberlin as being the first "mega force" on the court. He also has been called by many, "The Babe Ruth of Basketball". Yet he was a true class act throughout his life and brought dignity too the sport. His pale white skin, short cut hair and overbearing "Buddy Holly glasses" struck an image that was unmistakable. He created such shots and moves as the "jumphooks, skyhooks and up and unders" too which many credit later players with.

RIP Mr. Mikan and thanks for the legacy and we can only wish todays stars had one tenth your talent, charisma and most importantly CLASS,
RA

It seems as Mr. George's class has at least rubbed off on one in the industry today! Shaq picked up the tab for Mr. Mikan's funeral expenses.

WOW, it's great to see someone pay respect and homage too those who paved the way for future generations success!
