Is it possible to wet sand the textured finish down to a slick finish? I'm attempting to restore an '88 xb2002. I'm confident the textured part will buff out pretty nice with the 3m imperial compound but I was just wondering if anyone has actually sanded the textured areas all the way down to a shiny, slick finish.

sure you can do it but getting in the grooves is the tuff part but just wet sand on top and buff away but wash good afterwards to get compound out of grooves or will get hard....have fun

Thanks guys. I'll more than likely play it safe and buff the textured places. I was just thinking it would be a different look if the whole top cap was slick with no texture anywhere. I removed the decals and badges and have been wet sanding the hull when I have time. This boat was sitting outside for 11 years uncovered but the gel coat seems to be coming back to life with a little work.
