I am getting a Promax to replace the 260. Anyone that has had both, what were the fuel use differences? I spend most of the time under 6000 rpm, the 260 is extra motor that is not really needed.
Thanks, Kurt

My 260 used at least twice the gas as this 225X does... but the 260 made just over 300hp too. Once your used to that power Kurt it's tough to slow down. I thought you loved that motor??:big grin

After working some of the bugs out last fall this X runs like a fine swiss watch though. Put about 40 hours on it this summer with not a single issue..

Oh I do love the 260, it is just not what I need for fishing and tubing. I guess the word is overkill?? I have not been over 85 in the boat, I have to believe a good running pro max will run in the 80s on an 03.

Low to mid 90's with a 28 triton or something like that. For what you want the 225 would fit the bill with less hassle and worry... not to mention rebuild cost.

Kurt the biggest difference is with the Pro Max you will be able to hear your wife screaming for you to slow down.....the 260 you couldn't.. Better think about it. ;0)

YEARS! ago ran from Kissimmee to Okeechobee with a GrandSport and two 2003's. GS and my 2003 had 260's and other 2003 had a stock 225PM. The PM used within a few gallons of what the 260's used. However, my 200 SuperMag was noticeably better on fuel than the 260.

The way Kurt is using the 260 it would go 250-300 hours before even thinking about rings. RPM's kill the rings.. Then the rings kill the cylinders.

200XS would be perfect Todd. Price on the ProMax can't be beat, I can buy lots of fuel and possibly a nice Hydromotive OT 26 with the left over money v.s buying the XS.

200XS is somewhat of a unicorn, I have never seen one and hear they are not readily available?

I call bullshit on this one....I have bruises on top of my head because I couldn't hear her yelling at me to slow down over my promax lol.
Oh yeah, 99.4 with this 225 too.

Mine seems to get around 6 with a decent 28 with most of the riding around 3000-3500. I wonder if the X is better than the earlier promax on gas? I was used to 260's so anything is better than that. If you can stand not having that snappy HP under your foot.:twisted evil

It all depends how you normally drive. A properly tuned 260 will get very good fuel mileage in the 4000-4500 range. Very comparable to a promax.

Really, it seems to me the 260 uses a fair amount more than my 225X did? I run them both about the same.

I have to believe this 260 is running and tuned well, injectors just done, new fuel system and it idles really well, not a fouled plug yet. Don't make me second guess myself.:banghead

Difference is better fuel mileage aross the board and not having to carry fuel to blend. The ProMax will eat no ethanol 89 all day and love it.

That exactly what I'm after Dave. Fill it up and run it. I don't mind sacrificing some snap and top end. What I will miss is that sweet offshore mid sound. I don't think the neighbors will miss it at 6 in the morning headed out to fish.
