260 vs 280 xb03

so I've got a 97 xb03 and I was planning on putting a 2.5 280 bass on it but now it doesn't look like I can buy that motor anymore, I can however get a late 90's 2.5 260 on an offshore mid with less than 50 hours on it with a new polished sport master and an alternator kit for $8000cdn. So my question is how much better is the 280 over the 260 and what kind of speed should I expect with a 260, and is $8000cdn a fair price?

$6000 US is what your $8K loonies are worth. Seems like a good price to me. Especially with a new Sporty and an alternator. The 16A motors would not work for my use.
