There is an SS2000 with a 300XS for sale on the Facebook page. It got me thinking about my 200 XS, which exceeds Allison's weight recommendation. But the 200XS is short shaft. Does the lower weight location help?

The 200XS cost more then a 300 would have. It's enough for me.

Lower weight definitely helps, especially in turns. All around a 200xs is hard too beat unless you want more power.

I think the ratcheting case of the 2.5's makes the biggest difference. The 300xs with a 3.0 sportmaster and the bigger props needed for speed with the low limiter would be a recipe for hooking on an ss.

I didn’t even notice the non ratcheting gear case on my 300xs, even letting off the throttle hard over 100mph. I couldn’t tell the difference between the 2.5 and the 3.2 case, except the 3.2 case liked higher prop shaft heights.

Been running the 3.0L on my GS with no handling issues what so ever, even when the gearcase locked up at over 80 mph.14457
