I know I read on here awhile back that some of you have installed Autometer Pro Comp gauges. What sender did you use for the water temp? The sender on my 280 has 4 wires coming out of it. I assume that the extra wires are for the temp alarm system. Did you just keep the stock sensor from merc and attach the one tan wire that is on the back of the stock gauge marked sender to the new one?

Thanks,

Westy

Autometer gauges need a short sweep temp sender to work correctly. Went through the same thing with my 280/260 electrics a month ago. Temp gauge was reading about 40 degrees too high. Changed out sender to an Auto Meter 2258 sender to measure water temp, and works fine now.

Yes, it did. Running 260 electrics, the hot horn comes off the other head. Can't remember if it does on the 280's or not.

Where did you order the different send Paul?
Mine reads 40 degrees off.

Advance Auto Parts. It was about $16-17. They had to order it in, but it came in the next day. I put it into the top of the head, so I'm actually reading water temp now instead of head temp.
