driveshaft twist

How common is a slight driveshaft twist just below the splines on a sportmaster? Mine
has been like this for quite awhile. 280 W/ SM

if your driveshaft is twisted i'd be highly suspect of it. when a driveshaft lets go under a load such as acceleration it can create some serious carnage in your powerhead. can you post a clear pic or email one to me and i can post it full size so we can get a better look at what your looking at

Run your engine full throttle in REVERSE, while your boat is in the water! If that doesn't straighten out the twist, at least you'll experience something most of us never want to do (he,he,he)!

Seriously, you may want to inspect the driveshaft closely---especially at the rear bearing. If you detect "work hardening" REPLACE shaft.

got the shaft replaced because it made me nervous. shelled the whole thing the next
day. (quality repair work)
