Have no spark on my pontoon motor. Ran fine across the lake shut down to fish wouldn't start back up. Got a tow and then it fired twice but that was it. No spark at the plugs. All the fuses I Gould find are good. Any ideas?

Look under the flywheel . If it's a RED stator it's probably bad. But it could be a few things.

I had a 94 40 HP Force once. Stator went bad on it too but I don't remember just what the symptoms were. I was told the original stator was a common problem on those motors after Mercury took them over.

So boat went into the shop and week later when they went to work on it, it started right up. He said he can't find anything wrong?

Disclaimer: I'm not an outboard mechanic..

Does anyone on here know if the engine could possibly have a thermocouple in the system that kills spark if the engine is past a certain temp, allowing it to operate fine once cooled..?
