Prop insert/splined insert

I need to buy the insert for a large shaft sports master. My local prop dealer has the stock steel mercury unit with the rubber strips. Is this what I need for my 280 or is there an after market unit that you guys prefer. Thanks, Allen

Be aware of the fact that there are two metal inserts, one for the Fat Shaft 11/4" and one for the Std. 1" Usually the one with the rubber strips on the corners is the Std. Solid Hub version for the 1" shaft. That is 15 spline. The one you are looking for is the metal insert with the plastic strips on the flats of the hub, that one is 19 spline and is for the 1 1/4 " shaft. Also if yours is the Fat Shaft you use NO thrust washer... Hope this helps ya out.

Call Glen at Reynolds Racing Marine and get one. Just tell him you have a fat shaft sporty and he will send you what you need. He had the best price I found. I want to say it was $122, but it was about a year ago, so I cant really remember.
