I have a stock 1997 225 promax, with a sportmaster LU, Do I have the fat shaft or the skinny shaft. What are the differences and why was there 2 made, general info please???

I think yours should be a small shaft. I'm pretty sure the fat shaft didn't come out till around '02. The small shaft is 1" diameter, the fat shaft is 1 1/4".

Fat Shaft has 19 splines.Standard Shaft has 15 splines.Yours as Neal mentioned
should be 1" Standard Shaft.
