Question for you all on a 2001 ,225 X

It will idle but won't take any throttle and supposed to have been rebuilt and I'm thinking about buying it so what's it worth if it's got to be rebuilt again after I get it home ====

This is what I have been told about it,,, 2001 mercury 225x pro max cranks and runs until you give it gas and it dies. Will idle all day long. Motor was rebuilt a couple years ago and hadn't been used but couple times, not even enough to break it in.

Have somebody scan it if compression is good.

There's NO stator. How cheap is it?

Sounds high to me for a motor that has issues, even if it has a sportmaster lower unit.

I think they made them 4 years (1999-2003).

My 2002 225X had the very same symptom new out of the box. Dealer discovered that the plug-in for the Throttle Position Sensor was jacked. Your probably going to have to find a dealer the has DDT to test the functionality of the TPS.


Leak-down test is a must, If it has low leak-down numbers, less than 4% (in my opinion), and gets the noted issue resolved, $5k is a good price. These are great motors with near bullet proof oil injection.
