A mercury 280 2.5 EFI with following serial number: OT998827

Is there some way to tell if it is a ROS (8000+ limiter etc) or standard (7700 limiter). Is it also possible to confirm its a -05?

I have serached the internet but can't find any answers.

Thanks! You guys have been very helpful! :)

Yep. It'll either have the letters ROS or CON on the ecu label. The ecu will have a date on it, also the build date should be stamped into the side of the block near the block/front half mating surface at the base of number two cylinder. If I remember the area is hard to see on a 280 with stock electrics

Btw, I had a 2005 280 with the serial number OT998314 so I would say yours was at least an 05 considering it has a higher serial number

Yep, mine is a 2005 280 and it is 0T998555, so definitely a 2005. I think a # is wrong in your s/n. I think it may be a 877, not 827. Is it a 20" mid version? 877 shows as a 20" mid, but there are no s/n in the 820's.

Thank you guys from helping out....I found that the power head is mounted on a drag 300 mid, OT998827 was the number stamped on the mid and maybe thats why it couldn't be found here: http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/us/parts-search.html#epc::machine_find

The number stamped on the block show: OT999424...

This is what came out when searching on the new number:

1925201DH = ME 2.5EFI Short-Standard ... Is it possible to tell if itis a ROS from this info?

Thanks once again?

Just get the person who owns the motor to send you a pic of the ECU. It will clearly say either "280 CON" or "280 ROS" on the box.
