I'm thinking of a ski prop for my SS2000. I used to run a 150XR4 and a 24" Laser would pull my 170 lb out OK, and slowly pull out my 200 lb brother.

This is back up duty only. Our primary ski boat now is a 16' Baja/115 HO Etec. But in the fall I will put the Baja in storage and keep the SS out until it's cold. If there's a fluke warm day (it happens) I'd want to be skiing.

Is it worth trying the 24" Laser as a ski prop? It's a small hub prop.

Would a 25" Trophy be worth a try or would it be too much? I'd like to be able to use the same prop for 4 on board touring, so I don't want to go real low in pitch. It's only back up.

thanks

I'd go 21-22p, at most... Your not gonna be skiing at 50 mph, so might as well get some dig power and take the load off the hardware.. I'd say any ol' prop that is in sound condition and balanced should work...

I use a 21p Mercury High Five and let me tell you that thing, will pull stumps out. Makes a great ski and tube prop.

Slalom or regular..
On two you should pop out with any prop...slalom on my 2003 I had to drop to a 24. The 21 comes out of the hole better and I almost got up on one with both feet in the bindings with a 26 xob..traded for a 25 because I could only turn 6200 up top.

If it works that will be great. If not i still have my xot and I found a used bravo cheap enough that I may try it as well...never having to take the 25 off would be sweet though

By the way I have a 200 xri with svs stock compression heads.

Agree..........a 23 Trophy has always been my favorite and I've had 3 different High 5's to compare it to.

A 23 will work for a lot of guys but if you are pulling up some beef on a single I would recomend a 21. I found a used 21 Trophy Plus that Leading edge had put some nice smooth cup into it. Now I can pull up anybody with out the motor straining.

Define heavy...210 and spdeepwater start both feet int the binding...wide bodied so I am like a lead weight...use a comely hook so it's not a fat bodied ski to aid greeting up either

I can hang on tight though...

I have pulled up 2 skiers at the same time and a 230 lb barefooter from deep water starts with no problem with the 23 pitch.

When I had a checkmate with a 150 merc I used a 19p laser II that did well, but a 24p would of been to big for that setup. Now, on the xb2003 I use a 23p trophy that works great and will still run in the 80s with 5 in the boat. My experience with 4 blade props is that they have always turned about 1.5-2 pitch sizes taller than what was stamped on them. There is no way I would go bigger than a 24p trophy for skiing. I've never tried a high 5, but IMO that would not be a dual purpose prop for what your looking for.

I might try a 25. I'm under 170 lb these days and this only for fall skiing after the other boat gets put away.

Wouldn't the 225 with 1.87 gears be better out of the hole than my XR4 with 1.78 gears? The XR4 had a tuner that took away some bottom end.

So far I've only run an over hub prop on the PM, and it slips out of the hole so I can't judge what it can really do.

I wound up with a bad water pump. So my SS is in my cottage garage, waxed and ready for spring, except for the lower unit. The lower unit is in my kitchen waiting for a nose cone.

My back up boat is a 16' Baja w/115 HO. We were October skiing last weekend, which is a rare treat.

Oh, and I did buy a 26 Trophy, and I think it will pull me out on one ski. Next year.
