Sportmaster nosecone modification

Has anyone done this nosecone modification to your SportsMaster low water pickup (see image)? If so can you tell me the pros & cons?

Starboard side plugged is faster. When done, watch water pressure to make sure ok.

So it is for speed but you have to make sure water pressure is ok.
Have you tried this yourself? Is it still a current practice?

It is often done for both. At high speeds the stock holes can let in too much water and WP can get too high. As an added bonus, plugging a starboard hole streamlines flow to the thrust side of the prop which sometimes results in a speed increase

Robbie at Lee Sanderson's has always filled that hole for the Allison mod cases. They work fine and carry good pressure.
