Hey guys

Think I'm going to get a QuadIV OT and looking for advice on pitch.

I have an XB2003 with a 280, normal Alli setback and 20" shaft, commercial ECU. Use my Alli primarily to fish. So with a normal fishing load, not real heavy and not real light, what pitch are you running succesfully??

thank you

Bill

Used to run a 26 Trophy but have also run a 28 Hoss very well. then again 28 Spinelli was a dooooggggggggggg out of the hole and couldn't get RPMs up over 7000. That's the delima, pitch is only relative to the make and model of the props. Vary make/model and you'll use different pitch.

So you think 28 is too much then Todd? ok thanx :smile you make em and I value that opinion:at the bar

Anyone else running this setup want to give an opinion?????

It depends a lot on how fast do you want to go and how quickly do you want to get there. What is your limiter? Is it 7700rpm's? I have the same set-up as you except I have an 8200 limiter. I have run and own both 27 and 28 OT. Both run well according to my standards.

Catfish,
Thanks for the reply but what you left out is you have a modified pad lip and you run 1.5" or so above the pad. With a stock lip and lets just say even with the pad a 28 is too much pitch. White if you only turned a 28 @ 7000 there is your answer right there. The four blade OT bites hard and properly set up you will see 5-8% slip...

My son Matt with a 225X/XB2003 with stock lip turns the 28 OT into his 6850 limiter without issue at 92.5-93mph. As Todd has stated though.........a 26 or 27 would be the better choice although ALL his props work great!

I don't have any lip either, so how does that effect lip??

Commercial ECU...what's that 7500 or 7700 RPMs right.

They definatly bite well, sometimes I wish my 27 was a 26 as I run right 82 to 85 depending upon load with a 200 EFI at 6000 to 6400 rpms...I am adding and SVS and plan on having the 1/8" vent holes changed to PVS vent holes at some point however so I am sticking with the 27.

Bill,
7750 is the stock limiter. What is your exact motor height ??? Still thinking 26,27. If you are not happy with RPM's I will swap it out for the next size up or down. No worries Bill.

I have the hydralic plate set so at the top of it's travel the motor is even to 1/4" above the pad. Always heard and read that the XB2003 runs best even with the pad, so I set the hydralic plate up as stated above, that way I could not get the motor excessively high.

I normally run in the 6000-7000 range. I know this may be blasphomy here and this is just my 2 cents opinion, but hauling *** at 7750 RPMS all the time puts too much wear and tear on a motor. I know I'm fast and if anyone wants to challenge that then I'll run em, but I tend to putt-putt around 90% of the time trying to keep the motor together longer. Of course putt-putting in a Allison at 6000-7000 RPMs is still still faster than most boats!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking same as you Todd, 26 or 27, leaning toward 27 though. I'll call ya when I get back in the country.
