Many of you have probably seen the debate on S&F about if an XB2002 can go 106 with a 200 Promax and a coned XR gearcase.

The closest similar claim I can dig up is John Tiger's Hotboat article on an XR2002. He had a 2.4 200 up to 98-99. Bolt ons, heads, tuner, reeds, reedcase, took it up to 104. Dyno numbers were dubious due to some carb problems, but around 205 stock.

A 2.5 200 Promax is probably stronger than a 2.4 200. The XR case should be good for a couple of mph. Is the XB2002 about as fast as an XR2002?

The fastest claim for a 200 on an XR2002 on the main page is Craig Creppel at 96.7.
The fastest claim for a 200 on an XB2002 on the intro page is Troy at 94.1

One thing I noticed reading through the boats from the main page is the efficiency of the Allys with low HP. Gains with big HP seem less than I would have expected, ie speed proportional to the square root of HP.

An XR02 w/stock 200 will run over 100 mph with no trouble, well over... My Brother's old XR02 now belonging to Gary "Instigator" Williams would run 96 mph+ with a 100% untouched as it left Mercury Marine 200 hp engine with no problem in scorching summer heat all day, and it was only 96 mph because He was against the factory rev limiter with a cut 28 pitch Chopper... The XR02 hull was also 150lbs. heavier than an average hull... I believe an XB02 will run over 100 mph with a sharp enough set-up and a big enough prop to keep it in the HP band... There are drag racing classes that mandate and uncut 200 block, but allow bolt-ons.. These engines are reputed to be in the 240 hp range, BUT they run over 100 mph in the 1/4 mile @ 1,400 lbs. and they are set-up for the quickest E.T. as opposed to max mph... Alot of those drag boats with a big prop and different engine height can run well over 110 mph in a long stretch... Some are saying that 106 in an XB02 w/200 is nearly impossible, but I humble think that if enough good things aligned it would be possible... I think it would be a very noteable achievement for sure, but still very possible...

What do you think a 2002 with a 200 pro max, light flywheel, jay smith 35cc heads, svs system,12 inch plate,15 inch mid with a sportmaster could do in a long run or the 1/4?

I have zero doubt the XR2002 will run over 100 with no rev limiter or a big prop or both. Like Kevin said mine would run 95 against the limiter with a cut 28 chopper just about every time out. The XR2002 is quite a bit faster on top than the XB. Jeff Tyner ran his 110 at the 200 shootout.

I'd kinda like to see how fast mine would go with a stock 150. Anybody got a motor they want to loan me:LMAO:

I can't speak to an XB2002 cause I have very little experience with them. I could see a well setup one running 100. The XR2002 I know pretty well.

How's the re rig coming? You got the new power on it yet? My boat has been in Fort Worth for the last 3 weeks getting the bottom cleaned up. I'm ready to get it back so I can start rigging it

This claim was made with a "box stock" 200 Super Mag. Also, from what I understand this is a plain ole' regular weight XB2002. :wink
IF it is out of the box, no mod's !!!!!!!!! CANT see it happening !!!!!!!!!

Please define the word "stock"? I'm sure its not what yall think it is.
106mph is probly the rotating assimbly(short block) the only thing that is stock.

I had a 89 comp xb2002 with a 91 xri 200 h/p just rebuilt, no mods, running a 28 chopper at even with the pad, 6" of set back. The best i got out of it was like 88 mph. Although that was fast enough for me.

Ive driven a tournament xtb-21 with a bone stock 150 promax to 84.6 on the gps.Im still amazed by that. With 50hp more as well a by far faster hull id like to think there was a easy mid to high 90s to be had by a 2002.But......106 hmm
