So I have a new Garmin transducer that is a bit too long for the glassed in transducer tray in the hull. I can epoxy it right next to it on the right if looking forward. Will it work there ? I read somewhere that you can only mount them in the tray to work but unsure if that meant the tray itself or that area of the hull.

Thanks,

The thickness of the hull is pretty thick on the pad. It's thinner in the tray. You could try it outside the tray and if it didn't work grind out some extra material toward the bow or stern to make a flat spot long enough, and put a small bit of gel coat to seal it back up. I sanded the bottom of the tray until it was nice and flat and made sure there way no loose material, and no way air could get in between the ducer and solid hull and epoxy.
