i have a 2000 model xb 2003 with a 2000 model mercury promax 225. it is set up with a Hydraulic allison jack plate with a total of 14 and half inches of setback. i have tried a 26 trophy plus 4 blade, a 27 mazco, a 28 allison cut prop, and a 29 hoss triton prop. i have not found one yet that will not turn up to my rev limiter. it is factory set for 6250 rpm. the fastest i have been able to get the boat to run was 87 with the 27 mazco. i have just borrowed a 30 mazco and i have not been able to try it yet. does anyone have an idea what kind of prop might be better for my setup. i want it to run out on the top end.

I liked the Mazco props when I had a 2003 with 225Pmax.

I kept a 29 RE3 for lighter loads..a 26 and a 28 RE4 for fishing.
the best speed runs I ran were with a 30 RE3.

The rev limiter on that mtr should be set at 6750 !!

Is it possible the motor is too low? You should be able to turn that 27 pitch to the limiter. If that is not the problem, have the motor checked out by a tech with a Merc DTS system.

I'll 3rd what FFM and FB said, 1st off your rev limiter is set at 6750. If you are not even able to hit 6250 them something is wrong. Suggest you figure out what is wrong and then try to prop for top speed.

With the same set-up as you when I had my 225PM, I could spin a 26 Trophy+ up to 6750, but the best prop I ever ran was a 28 Spinelli DR4 at almost 90mph.

I see you are in Alabama...where at in Alabama? Sent you a PM

i am sorry type-o my limiter is set at 6750 not 6250. i have turned all of the props up to the limiter. i can gain a couple more miles per hour if i hold it on the limiter. i took it to a dealer yesterday and he said that it might have to much negative tuck in the jack plates. i have never heard of this before. thanks for all of the feed back.

sometimes if you are right at the limiter it will slow down do to the ECU dumping a lot of fuel into the motor, next time out instead of flatfooting it get up to speed trimmed out and if you are at the limiter back off just a little and see if your speed picks up

I'd raise the limiter to 7250. It's cost about what a new prop cost and it allows you to pitch down and get great all around performance.

You'd have to get it to Sean at Rapair. If you don't know anyone that knows him, let me know.

My recommendation would be a 28" Hydromotive OTIV or a 28" Performer 3 (30" if you run real light). My hydromotive runs 93-94 and I have a stock limiter.

Something is wrong with your mota,I run a 27 tempest plus with a 2.5 200 with milled promax heads, stacks, boisens and blueprinted exaust chest and turn 6600 with a fishng load and 2 people when it is cool weather. Might need your TPS set.

I keep hearing great feedback about the hydromotive prop. I got a couple of trophys i run.

Does the 28" Hydromotive come out of the hole good?

Im runnin a 225x with 14inch setback and a hydraulic jackplate.

I had a 27" trophy and the 28" hydromotive comes out of the hole considerably faster than the trophy. Once on plane, the hydromotive will absolutely smoke the trophy when it comes to acceleration.
