Hi Guys, I've got a friend that has asked me to make his little 2000 Yamaha F15 four stroke run like new again.
I purchased the factory service manual, so I'm ready to dive into it with the warmer weather coming. Here is the question - The engine will not rev uppast 4,000 rpm. Compression is good, spark is good, carb is clean and ethanol-free. I can't find anything in the manual about timing control. Since there is no mechanical advance device, I am assuming that spark-advance is controlled by the CDI unit. Can any of you experienced marine mechanics confirm that for me? Nothing was taken off, the engine ran fine one day and then the next would not rev-up and it's been like that ever since.
I wanted to run this by you before spending $225 of his money to put a new CDI on the outboard.
Thanks in advance!
