Now that I got the 1197 I can't decide quite what to do with the 997?

I thought about puttin it on the bow like Jimmy said but they a lil big for up front and I can spin that 1197 around on the ram beside the steering wheel so seeing it from the front deck is easy.

I gotta list of folks I promised to offer dibs on it to but now I aint sure what I'm gonna do. (Didn't take any money!) I also need a good navigation unit on my deckboat and thought about the 787 Hbird with HD maps. But obviously the 997 would be that much better for such duty. I gotta do some measuring but I think I could mount the transducer under the rear boarding ladder and not only would it be out of the way but the ladder would be a virtual "roll cage" to protect the 'ducer from damage.

I've also thought about riggin up the 997 like a "portable" job for use in buddies boats, jon boats etc... I'm still plannin on gettin me an aluminum rig for small waters with my boys and it would be great in a boat like that as well. Using it like that would leave my 1197 strictly for the 21 so damage from moving the big one back and forth/handling would be that much less of a worry.

I think for now I'll prolly hold on too it tho. I managed to pay for both of em without momma havin a clue how much they are so I'd prolly be a fool to let one go at this point!!! :cuss :big grin

Send me a picture of the big screen when you figure out where to put it. Im thinking the same thing for my XB21 but where do you mount a flatscreen like thaat where it wont either be in the wind or in your lap!

Oh flat I already got the ram mount in place. Just gonna remove the bracket from the 997 and put the 1197s bracket in the same place atop the Ram mount in the rod tray right next too the cockpit. Works like a charm, wind is no problem either because you can tighten the ram and swivel mount down so it doesn't move in the wind. (Unit facing sideways so you can see it when driving anyway so it's got a low profile in the wind when underway anyway).

Here's a pic I posted before of Jeffro (Mercboy175) driving with the 997 ridin along fine. That's the second 997 we've mounted in the same spot on 21s and both work fine.

And with that automotive fuse/power block under the console it makes installation a snap! Only wire running too the back is the transducer cable.

ps
Here ya go flat, another pic I forgot I had already put on here. This is an overhead shot showing the basic installation of the 997 on my 21. You can see the ram mount/unit in the rod tray as well as the GPS puck/antenna on the steering brace right behind the existing Garmin puck/antenna. Both work fine and I've never had reception problems. Even in the garage I can get a GPS signal with the console closed. Neat, clean and easy install. http://forum.allisonowners.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1515&d=1222016955

I'll tell ya'll what I was thinking the other day with the lid flipped forward why not just mout the flat screen monstrosity in there? I mean I got a disconnected speedo on the left a tach that I can get on smartcraft on the right and this little bitty Garmin in the middle. Cut all taht stuff out and glass in the flat screen! Why not? If I put a 20" flat screen, gps battery monitoring, data map generating, butt temerature in the seat telling, mega screen, fish producing direct link to heaven designed by Neptune himself deally in the dash... I aint gonna take it out. and i don't need none of the other guages on the flip forward dash. Hell I'm thinking about cutting a hole in the front deck and putting and 60" plasma screen under lexan where my front deck is. I'll just be standing on a hugeass fish finder right under my feet all day. But seriously i don't wanna ram mount it in the tray cause I put my rods there.

Those rod holders are one of the best innovations I've seen on a bass boat. It's his boat and if he wants to mess up a good feature on it he can. I'm sure he has come up with a better place for his partner to put his rods in.
sj
ps: Placing it so close to the driver seat might be due to poor vision I guess!

SCREW my partners rods, they go in the "backseat"! :LMAO: I put MY rods on the front deck, under the rod straps with the tips sticking back over the rod trays (including the one under the SI unit). I don't want someones rods in the trays getting tangled in mine. If I had a choice I think the rod trays would've been better pointing frontward to be "loaded" with the front fishermens rods than the other way. I like being able to get too them from the front deck, not climbing down in the cockpit to retrieve them out of the tray and tubes.

I've never seen a 2+2 in person, but I would think that they are close to the Prosport as far as the front deck. My partner "Fishnfireman" puts his rods on the front deck and I use both rod trays. There has not been a problem with my rods tangling with his.His ram mount is located just above the rod tubes on the front deck. Will post some pics in the next few days, weather permitting.
