From what Ive been told because i had this internal debate many times myself, 150 is about average when ya want to be re-ringing. Some guys have gotten a little more but once ya start getting over 100hr your going to want to start keeping track of leak down numbers to be sure. 100-150 hours is a lot longer than most think. Usually 3 or 4 seasons for most.
I guess the bigest Q is for that 260/280 punch that nothing else will give ya quite like these do is that worth 1000 bucks every few seasons to ya. I know if someone was close enough to me to re ring it would be for me.

They can KABOOM in only a couple of hours, if you race them at 9.000 + rpm's they can be wore out in 1 season or even a couple of races.

Yeah and if you run them not to 9k plus all day you can get up to 250 hours before reringing. Been there and done that. It just depends how hard you spin it and how long you spin it. Obviously if you run mostly low and mid rpm's it will last longer than if you run it 9-10k constantly.

And if you go with thicker gaskets and keep the R's down, maybe your choice of motors wasn't right in the first place.

If I was going to "detune" a 260/280/drag I would just buy a 225X and be done with it.

Equal boat, setup, prop, etc a 280 is only 5-6mph at most faster than a 225X.

Is that a stock 225x or limiter and flywheel done?

Limiter and flywheel done.

Those two items are only good for approximately 2mph. Stock motor vs stock 280 with 7750 limiter I would say a 7-8mph difference.

9 times out of 10 I can't run any faster than 60-65mph and with this Supersport I couldn't see having more than a 225X.

It is UNREAL the difference a boat makes. A 225X was quick on an XB03 but this 225X SS on this supersport would run it over.

maybe 5 or 6 mph faster but line them up and watch how much faster it will accelerate, it will be on down the lake further than what you think!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have lined them up side by side... Xb03 boats, one with a 225X and the other with a 280 offshore. The 280 is quicker, but it does not put the 225X to shame by any means.

Depends how much you want to spend on rebuilds!!!!!! To many hours everything will be shot when you rebuild.. Rebuilds every 100 hours you could save the nic, and maybe the pistons.

All depends on rpms...........

I get about 65 hours when I run them HARD on my bass boat. The comp will start to go, and leak down will rise....

At 70 hours on my 280, compression was 150 all the way and leakdown was 4%.

With a stock consumer rev limiter?
you are 1/2 way there. Depends on rpms!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I said HARD that means high 8700 to 9200 every time out..

consumer 280 is 7850 rev limiter. Rpms is what shortens the life of these motors. 150 is about the max I have seen without replacing pistons, and that is rare, but possible. Usually get one rebuild on factory nic, but not always.
Just what I have found from the ones I have rebuilt.. There are always some extreme better, and worse....
Also every builder has different tolerances.......

I have pistons here that I think are paper weights, for a stock bore block, but I know guys who will run them in race motors...

Maybe some people like to have the option to reduce compression like for river runs and such or when they are not racing, but why am I telling you this you're obviously an expert.

And you obviously don't understand that the internet is full of opinions. Just because mine differs from yours, I don't believe it warranted your smart azz comment.

Roy, I have a ROS with limiter at 8250 although admittedly, I don't often run it there.
