I would think if your primary purpose is for towing the 1.86 gears would be more suited than the 1.75's. 2.0's would be even better.the 150 and 175 proxs engines make enough torque to spin a 1.75 gear. If it were me and I were trying to maximize efficiency and as most ally owners make as much mph as possible I'd run a 1.75 gear. the bottom end loss isn't as noticeable as the mid range punch and the added top end because of rev limiter issues.
Two skis or slalom?...So end of season deals are starting to show up. Is it good to say that a 175 proxs with lwp will pull a skier, wakeboarder and do 80mph with a good 4 blade hydromotive without a prop change? Or do I go with a 3.0 l?
I dont think the 200xs would be a very good ski tube engine. Your promax will walk on them. I raced a guy a few weeks ago with a new 200xs on the back of a 19ft cougar he was running a 24 trophy and I left him in the dust with a 28 drag3. He was a boat length back in 3 sec and when I stopped to wait for him he was way back. We talked about his motor and he said he likes the fuel economy but it was way slower than the 2.4 he traded for it. Hes owned the boat for 10 years.Mostly wakeboarding and tubing with kids. My slalom days are over. A 200xs or 2.5xs would be awsome but are really hard to find. Easiest would be the 175 proxs just bolt on and go. Lot of extra setup work to go to a 3.0l. A 175 HPDI would work but are a fortune to buy new up here website shows $19k and used are hard to come by.
Yeah, I sent them an email a few weeks ago asking how it ran with the 175, guy had no clue what he was talking about! No help at all. Definitely not a performance knowledgeable salesman.Try asking Allison Canada
They've got a 2007 GS with a 175 Opti on consignment sale. This motor has a sporty now, but is not an XS.
They also have a 2013 with a 175XS.
