I sold my honda VTEC:smile.
Now i wanna buy a yamaha. Which would you choose??
The Yamaha 150 hpdi Vmax 2.6 or yamaha 250 hpdi Vmax 3.3??
I don't go for the top speed! 80/90 miles is enough for me.
I have no lip on the xb2003.

Ive had 3 2.6s none of which were 150s or hpdi.I would look for a 200 or 225 the 3.3 250 is lil heavy in my opinion, 2 225s and 1 200. The being happy with 80 only works for telling the wife, not a ally owner.I personally think a 200 would a great combo for ya.Aaron

The yamaha 200 hpdi Vmax are hard to find.
I can buy an 150 2.6 and/or an 250 3.3.
That`s why i am asking...150 or 250?
And really 80/90 mph is fast enough for me!
I like to cruise en not full speed.

The 150 and 175 both weigh 468 lb, according to Yamaha. A bit more than Allison recommends, but reasonable.

The 200, 225, 250, 300 are all listed at 539 lb. These could work, but clearly Allison doesn't want them on their boats.

I'd go for the 175, and perhaps the low end of your speed target.

I dont thnk you will be happy with a 150. It will be a 80 mph ride at best. That is light loaded. I would go for at least a 225. I had a 200 and while it was fast hit 88 once. It wasnt enough. Why only Yamaha? There are alot of promaxs out there for sale. It is a proven set up also.

go with the 150 and then go onto the scream and fly web site there are several poeple that can help with pulling more power out of it and some of them are closer to where you live

Maybe it's just me but if I'm going to modify a motor... why not start out with something stronger to begin with???

I'm certain that HydroTec makes a Phase III kit for a 200 and it will make more power than a Stage III 150. Or is there something I'm missing? Why start out with a 150?

To stick with just the Hydro-tec Phase kits your right Russ, A Phase II on a 200 (265 hp) will put out more power than 150 Phase II. To get the same hp I am pretty sure they would have to change the 150 to 200 specs first. You did mention EFI as opposed to HPDI. They did make a 200hp 2.6L Ox66 (EFI) in a saltwater version. that would be a nice motor to Phase out if you could put one on a 20" mid. If buying a new motor IMO a 175 Vmax HPDI with the Phase III (235 hp) would be the ticket on a XB2003. Or Hydro-Tec has a new V76 (2.6L HPDI Block) 325 hp mini-monster that would ROCK! IMO the 175 HPDI with the Phase kit would put you all over your performance goals.

Seriously, I would Call Mat or Wayne and talk to them personally. They are super to deal with and they can hook you up with many options.
