On Reynold's Racing site, the XB2003's are listed for sale and the order form information clearly states in red capital letters NO FUEL TANK. The form is dated January 2014.

What motor choices would you have anyway other than a 175... pretty soon there will be no 2 strokes to choose from the way things are going.
I am speaking from the "little HP thats not Merc" camp. Yes, choices are limited compared to the old days. But, that does NOT mean the end of the XB2002. Just a new era. An era where Darris's CORE philosophy behind these boats (doin much more with less) MUST be embraced or they will die a wasted and senseless death. Another thing is Darris has finally thought outside of the FonDuLac box...more will in the future as well.

There are some great motor choices for the XB2002, but you just can't compare them with yesterdays power and the speed they brought. Its unfair to do so. A more broad definition of "performance" will have to be embraced (as in TOTAL performance....not just top speed). This is happening too, just read the posts about Grant Goldbecks XB21. Its not about one segment of performance but ALL segments of performance.

So many older used motors out there. I Build them everyday. So easy to get 225-280hp from the old 2.5 200 hp. We make them better than they were back in the day. Great new improved parts available. Still can get sportmasters, and parts for them. I would rather do that. Even rebuilt stock with a more up to date fuel curve, improves mpg greatly.
The 200 I had on my 2002, I think it was making gas. Lol I went fishing 4 days and used 10 gal. I ran high 80's everyday. For the 2002 no doubt that is what I would do, If I was looking for great mpg and still run 90+.JMO if you wanted a Merc.

I agree...for those that already have an XB2002 or is buying used. My point is for NEW XB2002's (which will keep the model alive). Not many people want to buy new boats and rig used motors on them. If paradigms can change and Allison markets them for their performance and effeciency with 135-200 hp motors in comparison to other boats in the 18 ft bassboat market, I feel they can succeed.

The XB2002 is all that has been said about it here. I don't think the current motor options will be the death of the little boat. $31,000 with single axle trailer is the dagger. There have been
8 built since mid 2007. Good money says half that number in the next 5 years. It will be akin to 250mph Bugatti sales.

Has anyone checked on a fully dressed or long block assembly from Merc in 2.5 200 EFI configuration? I agree with Roy. Many of these parts are still a available as assemblies. Would not hurt my feelings to have a new 2.5 powerhead, new aftermarket cowl, refurbished mid and new Sportmaster on a 2014 boat.

$31k for a hull and trailer and you still have to supply your own fuel tank... In my opinion, Darris is writing his own eulogy. I just sold my XB2003 due to not having the time to use it, but hope for a day, when the kids are gone, to be able to get another boat. The way things are heading in the Allison camp, it probably wont be on the short list.

80 is the new 60...he is gonna have to up his HP ratings cookie cutters are within spitting distance.

250 HP motors and prop technolog are killing the novelty of performance boats, put 250/300HP with a custom prop on a turd and it'll run 80

point was you can do more or better for a lot less. you can also get a new 150 for 8-9000 and still spank some butt. and the talk about problems with a 500 lb motor is just that talk.

There is alot to be said for what the 02's and 03's can due with 200hp or less compared to 20'+ boats running 225-250hp,they still handle better, accelerate faster and get great mileage and can be towed with a v6.Im storing a 150 supermag that i plan to run in 5 or 6 yrs on my 2003 and can honestly say i would sooner run this than a tub with a 250 anytime.

From the inside looking out we know this, the general public from the outside looking in can't believe it

The man that built the boat said it

"The use of an overweight engine on the Allison XB-2003 ProSport could swamp the boat and/or cause severe handling problems at high speeds resulting in an accident with injury or death. DO NOT INSTALL an engine of 3-liters and up, nor any engine weighing more than 440 pounds, regardless of its horsepower. Allison Boats will absolutely NOT be responsible nor support any such activity in any way."

Most guys that are serious fishermen aren't going to buy a boat that requires the owner to source a gas tank, much less a rebuilt engine. They want a turn-key rig. That business model will limit sales to gear heads and go-fast guys, people that like to tweak and tune on their rig as much as they like to use it. Nothing wrong with that, but the mainstream fishermen was a water-ready package.

Agree with Neal, if your restricted to a 440 lb motor it better be a hell of a fishing boat...not really, if its going to be a sportboat you can fish out of it better beable to handle some HP and nobody makes lightweight HP motors........
